This only applies to the Thanx app and not to Thanx-powered branded applications.
The only thing you need to do to earn rewards at any Thanx merchant is make a purchase with your registered credit card there. You don't even need to know they are a Thanx merchant. You'll get a notification and reward progress like normal and the merchant will show up in the app as a favorite.
